About Us

Established in 1930, Tooting Market is South London’s original indoor Market. We are proud to represent a collective of vibrant and diverse businesses that reflects the community in which we serve: including a broad range of food vendors (amongst them Jamaican, Italian, Japanese, Mauritian, Lebanese, Chinese, Portuguese and Guyanese), an array of eclectic and unique retail stores (including a specialist record store, an art gallery, fabric vendors, tailors and a worldwide artefact specialist), alongside hair, beauty and nail salons and a gym. We are home to both established traders who have a long history with the Market, such as Stannard’s of Tooting Butchers and Ernest of MaatArt – alongside newer offerings such as Brickwood Coffee & Bread and Graveney Gin Distillery.

Tooting Market has won several accolades, including Best Small Indoor Market at the 2017 Great British Market Awards, and has been named as one of Lonely Planet’s ‘Top 10 Coolest Places to visit in the World’, alongside featuring on the BBC and ITV News. We have a loyal and valued local customer base as well as attracting visitors from around the UK and internationally.

Tooting Market represents the Heartbeat of the local community: our traders work tirelessly to serve the community seven days a week and we regularly host community events. A trip to the Market brings a chance for customers to support small business whilst enjoying a lively and unique retail experience that they won’t find anywhere on the high street, and meet with our brilliant traders who are passionate, dedicated and knowledgeable about their trade.

Our Staff

In addition to our amazing traders, we have a brilliant Management and Ops team who include:

Edgar, Tooting Market’s Operations Manager: the backbone of the Market – what Edgar doesn’t know about how the Market runs is not worth knowing! A man of many talents including being a trained electrician, Edgar also handles the odd plumbing and building works that arise.

Robert, Tooting Market’s Porter & Cleaner: Bringing cleaning and helpfulness to a whole new level, Robert helps to ensure that everyone’s experience at the Market is a positive one. He’s also the proud Dad of our Market Moggies!

Mike, Tooting Market Porter & Cleaner: Resident rock and roll legend (and Willie Nelson lookalike!), Mike is always ready with a smile and helping hand.

Karen, Tooting Market Manager: Our Lady Boss! Karen manages the Market on a day-to-day basis to ensure everything runs smoothly and Tooting Market a great experience for all that visit.

Our Market Moggies

Chester: Handsome black & white longhair Chester can be found residing at owner Alison’s Candy Cane Lounge, eyeing up the sugared mice!

Bec, Rudy & Lottie: are our gorgeous new Market kitties, keeping the mice in check and enjoying a fuss from our customers on a daily basis!

Toots: R.I.P. our Market General and Master Mouse-catcher, Toots, widely loved and very much missed by all in the Market.
